2013 Look Up Lodge Summer Camp Staffers

Not Your Normal Summer Job…

Hey Folks,

As some of you may know, here at Look Up Lodge, we are beginning to build the 2014 Summer Staff team. That’s a big deal for us because the Summer Staffers are such a huge part of what we do. As the front line of our summer program, twenty-four college-age students give up their summers to live out and teach the Gospel to the thousands of elementary, middle, and high school students that come through Look Up.

Being a Summer Staffer at Look Up is a big job and a truly incredible adventure that really can’t be fully encapsulated by words alone. The relationships and experiences that come with the job have lifelong impact and the lessons that are learned are not easily forgotten. For me, it is a beautiful, concentrated picture of what it looks like to live life as the Church – following God, in community, and on mission.

So, even though it is a difficult task, I’ve asked some of the wonderful folks that have served on Summer Staff teams in the past to share a little bit about what their summer (or summers) meant to them. First up is ChristaBeth Vaughn, who served on Summer Staff in 2012 and 2013. Here’s what she had to say:

Look Up Lodge Children's Camp

ChristaBeth and Tyler bid farewell to a group during Children’s Camp

When I first applied for Look Up Lodge, I had no idea that I would end up working there, let alone two summers in a row! Having the opportunity to serve thousands of campers and leaders that come through the camp in the three months you are there is humbling. Having the chance to serve and love each of them with Christ’s love is a huge blessing- one you never forget.

Over the two summers I worked at Look Up Lodge I was challenged, grown spiritually, and worked harder than I ever thought could be possible in three months. Being a Summer Staffer changed my life. It matured my relationship with the Lord, developed my work ethic, and taught me how to work closely alongside twenty-three other people who are completely different from me. Little did I know, that those twenty-three other people would become some of my closest friends and I would develop memories with them that I will always treasure.
